Buying a used Kobo- questions

My friend is selling me her Kobo. It works fine; she just got an iPad and uses that for all her digital reading.

If her device is authorized on her computer (she uses ADE to manage her e-library, and so will I), will there be any problems authorizing it on mine? Does she need to de-authorize it at her end first?

Thanks in advance for any help. I've never purchased a used reading device before, so want to make sure all bases are covered.

Just reset the Kobo device to defaults and you should be fine
Shouldn't have any problems with the Kobo either, as they're quite new so it'd hardly be showing wear.

I believe the previous owner will need to de-authorize the Kobo before you can authorize it on your account. I haven't done it myself, but I recall posts about Sony readers. I think she has to connect up to her ADE program and find the proper menu somewhere.

Hope that helps.

And, if possible, get a copy of the receipt. That should provide you with a one year warranty.

I bought a used one too. I haven't hit the factory reset as I am reading the books currently on it, but if I hit "reset" I assume I lose the books "she" downloaded onto it, correct?

DRM, also known as Digital Rights Management (or Digital Restrictions Management depending on your point of view) is another way to say 'copy-protection.' DRM is a marvellous system whereby content creators attempt to prevent unauthorized copying of their products by saddling them with limitations that punish their paying customers, while not inconveniencing pirates in the slightest.

If the books are not on a removable sd card a factory rest will erase them from the Kobo.

This is simply not true. I find juggling programs/keys/plugins for DRM removal (not to mention the extra step) to be a royal pain. It's usually much quicker and easier to find a nice torrent somewhere.

Meaning that another pirate who doesn't think it's a royal pain at all has already done the job for you. The main point remains true: The DRM failed to stop piracy.
