You have 1.0.00.180160 (where did you get it?) Firmware version which is not supported. (For 505s default action in this case was to also flash RootFS, but it's not available for PRS-300 in this installer, that's why it has failed). Didn't installer warn you about "not supported firmware"? You could try to do it via Advanced Settings => Flash PRS+ Firmware. but I cannot guarantee that it would work. |

My new PRS 300 also has the 1.0.00.18160 firmware. Where did you get the 1.0.00.24180 firmware? AFAIK, there have been no updates to the PRS 300 firmware.

My PRS 300 also has the 1.0.00.18160 firmware. There are NO firmware updates listed on the Sony site. Did you actually test PRS+ with a PRS-300? It does not look like you did.

About the risks: 300 is very similiar to 505 (basically it's the same hardware). It also has a neat "10 resets" feature, that allows to unbrick it into firmware update state, which makes it nearly unbrickable. Downside of 300 is, however, that there is no official Sony Updater for 300 (modified one for 505 works nevertheless). So restoring to original sony firmware is not immediately possible, you could update it to 505 firmware, and then flash using one of the available firmwares (by boroda, amutin or PRS+). Restoring 300 to original "factory" state will be doable with prs+ installer + backup files.
wgwood I bought my reader in Germany. Now we need somebody who'd risk "force" installing it via advanced settings. Once it is confirmed, I'll add 1.0.00.18160 to safe list in installer. Last edited by kartu; 06-22-2010 at 02:12 PM. |

My new 300 has .18160 as well, but I'm currently using boroda's firmware (1.05a).
Any reason not to try force-installing prs+ on top of it? |

Nope. Even if "something happens" and you'd have to ressurect it with updater for 505, boroda's firmware works fine with it.

Thanks.
Installed successfully in .18160 Broken: The 'home' button appears to nothing while in menu, and is either previous page or backwards in history while reading a book. No (obvious) way to change this particular key binding in settings. Other stuff: Screenshot directory defaults to SD card instead of internal memory. Force-installing firmware and rebooting does not delete the install folder (though I assume this is by design). |

Billiam
Thanks for the feedback. The "home" button is "lower right next page" button, you could bind it via key bindings. But that's a temporary "feature" of the preview. Someone reported quite nasty (because it could spoil the whole "write once, run on both 505/300" concept) battery drain problem. :/ Keep an eye on battery. OK, thanks everyone who participated in testing it. I'll try to fix the battery drain issue, before that's done, it hardly makes sense to test anything else.
