sony PRS-300 vs smart phone reader (like iphone)

Originally i was thinking of getting the PRS-300, but people have been teling me it's not so good for pdf's. I also have to get a new cell phone, so i was thinking of making things more convenient by getting a cell phone that can also function as an e-book reader for pdf's (text books mostly).

Would the i-phone do this? How well does the i-phone (or whatever the best smart phoe digital reader is) function as a digital reader? I know the screen is sort of small, but would it be that much worse than the PRS-300?

I've been using my HTC Windows Mobile phone for an ereader for a while. Its not quite as big as an iPhone but close. Its been an OK reader but nothing to write home about. I haven't been too thrilled with PDFs in particular. If the PDF reflows and doesn't have too many diagrams, its OK. Probably 2/3 of my PDFs didn't reflow or had too many diagrams. I bought a Sony PRS 600 which was much better, almost acceptable. Especially with the PDF cropping programs available.

You might have good luck with your PDFs if they reflow. You can probably test the reflow of your PDfs in Calibre by converting to another format and then view that. Mine don't do so well.
