After that, sign the petition to ban cancer and the petition to repeal the Laws of Gravity.
1.) Internet petitions accomplish NOTHING. 2.) Internet petitions attempting to tell a gigantic authoritarian Communist government what to do would, if possible, accomplish less than nothing. 3.) Having outsiders step in and attempt to tell people what their cultural values towards anything should be are an exercise in futility. Including telling them which animals they are allowed to use for food. Do you actually think that a country that slaughters it's own citizens in the streets when they protest for increased freedoms is going to give even the slightest fraction of a second of attention to an internet petition "signed" by a bunch of foreigners? If this petition will change anything even for a single animal ... it is worth trying.
I am aware of the cruelty of the world and I do not deny their culture, their kind of food, but categorically opposed to the way they do ... I also know that the world is changing with time and sometimes a small stone can cause an avalanche... |

The motivation is laudable, but the method just won't work. If you want to promote any real change over there, your options are to go over yourself and try to get it done (and try not to get arrested), or to help fund whatever organizations may be doing just that (if there are any -- not sure).
And if you do find organizations attempting to push such things over there, do be careful to ensure they're legit and the money is going toward what they say it is. It would hardly be the first time if a charity was really just a mask for someone trying to pocket easy cash, as sad as that is. |

Kashue!
I support the struggle for animal rights; and it's encouraging to see campaigns like this springing up around the world. |

In a world where human children have no rights.
Where the human race has bred itself beyond critical mass and into an accelerating downward spiral. And the sociopath evolves from random aberration to dominant species. The animals will recover, for they are the meek. You and yours, however, are done. |

this is a country that promotes the mentality that it is ok to sell poisoned products to their own people (and babies!) as well as the rest of the world!!! including massive amounts of tainted pet food that killed unknown amounts of pets in this country!!! they need a massive house cleaning let alone support for animal rights. they need to start with human rights!
oh! yeah and Free Tibet first! |

As long as the major governments and corporations in the world continue to make every effort to not offend them they will continue to do exactly as they please and to hell with the rest of the world. They do so many things on both a world stage and locally that should be just plain unacceptable and yet no one seems to have the nerve to call them on anything.
Given that they'll
My wife, a few months ago, threw out all of her cosmetics that were made in China. We don't buy any pet products made there, and we try, as much as possible to not buy any people food from there either. Last edited by dsvick; 03-05-2010 at 02:37 PM. |

The problem is, while many in China are at a 1st World level of income, the average Chinese citizen (which means a bigger population than the US or Europe) still is very poor, rural, and living at a subsistence level-- meaning struggling to not starve to death. "Animal rights" is a luxury invented by people who are safe, secure, and well fed, not people who have to live in the real world as it has been for most of human history. And the anthropomorphizing of animals is a cultural thing that isn't shared by all cultures. So by demanding that some other country with their own (deeply ancient) culture bend themselves to what outsiders tell them is how they should value animals and which animals they should be allowed to eat is not only naive, but smacks of racism. If millions of people in India got up a petition to tell Americans and Europeans to stop eating cows, we would at most laugh at it, and most likely ignore it. Just like China can (and should) for outsiders trying to tell them what they can eat.

If you believe that this is somehow a sanction of China, then you are wrong. They are just as bad as the US and the UK, but before the stones are thrown, you should really take a long hard look at where you are from, and what your country is doing (we should all do this). Oh and why we're all about freeing countries from other countries, here's a couple more that we could do with freeing from the US and UK invasion forces: Iraq. Afghanistan. And more than likely Iran soon enough, which is next on the list of Uncle Sam's Middle-East game of Risk. Oceania was at war with Eurasia; therefore Oceania had always been at war with Eurasia - George Orwell. |

I've no interest in getting into a debate about how "bad" the US or the UK are. I'm talking about a poison that has knowingly and repeatedly been put into numerous products. if you want to debate other issues, fine do it in another thread. I'm addressing a request to support animal rights in a country that has little value of human rights. in no way can anyone equate the status of the US and UK with China in that regard
