Can the JetBook do epub from libraries?

I'm looking to get my 1st ereader but want something that will work with the e books from the library, which I think are DRM? ePub. Will the JetBook work with those or do I need to get something else?

For lending library ebooks you need mobile Adobe Digital Editions support. This isn't available with the JetBook. It is with the Aluratek Libre, which is the same hardware but different firmware, see Aluratek Libre just got Adobe DE support.

Other relatively low cost alternatives with mobile ADE include the Sony PRS-300 and the EZ Reader Pocket Pro.

Thats a disappointment. No more NY Times Bestsellers for me...unless Nathaniel Hawthorne and Mark Twain make a popular comeback to the best sellers lists.

There is some hope, and not just because its been demonstrated that it can work on
the same hardware, that the Jetbook/Jetbook Lite might have that capability added
sometime in the future. But if that is critical to a buying decision, then you should'nt
get a Jetbook yet.

As it is you can most likely buy that best seller from eReader.com, or B&N.

Luck;
Ken

yes, all NY Times Bestsellers in PDB format can be purchased from eReader.com, Fictionwise.com or B&N website

Fictionwise in particular is doing a 100% MicroPay rebate on NY Times bestsellers.

OK, So it looks like the Aluratek might work then. Are there any "real" differences between it and the JetBook due to the different firmware?

It looks like the Aluratek is $170 at newegg, only $20 less than the Astak Pocket Pro. Is it worth the $20 extra to go with the Pocket Pro due to more formats, etc?

Aluratek and JetBook are the same hardware. Buy the device with the correct firmware you want.

The Pocket Pro is totally different hardware and firmware. It is a E-Ink device with 800x600 pixels, and totally different capabilities. It does have ADE support but does not currently have dictionary support. It does come with a nice case. It will last weeks on one charge.

The JetBook is a 640x480 screen with much faster page turns but only about 22 hours on a charge. It is not just about price difference.

The screen is a big issue. My wife loves the screen on the Jetbook. She looked at the Nook and the Sony and could not believe the annoying flash when they change pages not to mention their lag.

When you quote the jetBook as lasting 22 hours on a charge, don't forget that's 22 hours of solid reading. While not being used, it goes into standby.

That would be something that would irritate me aswell.

Regarding battery charge, would many other readers last much longer than that or do feel that is particularly short batter life?

There are others that last much longer on their built-in Li-ion batteries - but they must be recharged and when it dies you are SOL. With the Jetbook Lite you can carry a spare set of "AA" batteries so no worry about running out of charge. Further, you can use rechargeabe batteries well if you like.

Remember that it will run 20+ hours on a set of AAs. Even if you read 3 hours a day, that's a week on a set of batteries - and you can use NiMH rechargables just fine.
