OI 0.2 "live" on Jinke Hanlin: refusing SSH
I followed instructions for installing OI Live on my Hanlin V3.
I followed more instructions for configuring the USB/IP connection. Everything seemed more or less OK, except that ... % ssh root@192.168.111.1 ssh: connect to host 192.168.111.1 port 22: Connection refused The platform I'm attempting to connect from is Mac OSX Leopard. I know my ssh works because I use it all the time to connect to other hosts, scp files, etc. But the V3 running OI does not accept my ssh attempt. I gave it a good long time after boot in case it was desperately generating a host key -- might take a while -- but after 12 hours it still refused the connection. Can anyone shed light on this problem? I know one other user here has "no problem" connecting to OI via ssh. |

Try the recent daily build: there was a bug, and I'm not sure was it fixed before 0.2 or not.

Yes. Found the actual ticket: http://openinkpot.org/ticket/742
Introduced at 07.12.2009 (right after 0.2), fixed 06.01.2010 |

not quite

However, when I disconnect the cable, I am in the same state I was in on my previous attempt: I can't get to the books. Pressing the key for Library has no effect. Ditto Images, Audio. Games does get me to a menu of games. Applications gets me to a blank page. Setup gets me to setup options. But there seems to be no way to get into the list of files in /mnt/storage! User Guide mentions a "disks" menu which I don't see on my screen. So far, though it's a hoot to talk directly to the tiny little linux system, OI still isn't working for me as a book reader :-) I must be missing some very basic configuration issue. Do I have to run an app (as root, ssh'd in) to get the "Library" feature to see my .epub files in /mnt/storage? If I hit the 0 (right arrow) key while looking at the main menu, I get to a text-only version, headed with text "GM:Help". This turns out to be a help facility, explaining each main menu item. However, it doesn't explain how to get the Library menu item to show me a list of books. I think I'll roll back to v0.2 release and see if that works any better. somehow get the feeling I'm being a beta tester here :-) happy to oblige! |

Try running "DISPLAY=:0 madshelf" and see if it fails (it should fail, as you can't run the "Library" and the rest of stuff).

error message from madshelf
Quote:
This sure sounds like "stupid user" (i.e. me) error. What is the database file? Is it something I should have generated and loaded along with my epub files? Or should OI have autogenerated during boot? I tried running madshelf with various flags to try to get some debug, but no joy there. My, that's a teeny tiny kernel :-) Do I have enough mem to run madshelf? Mem: 29168K used, 1212K free, 0K shrd, 636K buff, 18340K cached Any other diags I can run? |

Everything should be created "on fly", so I suspect whole $HOME is read-only or fs is broken.

/ full?
so hmmm what could be filling it up?
/home/user # cd / / # ls bin/ etc/ lost+found/ opt/ sbin/ tmp/ boot/ home/ media/ proc/ srv/ usr/ dev/ lib/ mnt/ root@ sys/ var/ / # du -s * 457 bin 1 boot 8 dev 253 etc 5 home 4014 lib 12 lost+found 408689 media 6341 mnt 1 opt 0 proc 0 root 833 sbin 1 srv 0 sys 4 tmp 41702 usr 1506 var is this something I did or something wrong with this daily? I always suspect /var, myself, but I don't see any big logs. there's a bit of space used in /var/lib for dpkg. I'm not sure what this linux is supposed to look like so... not sure where to look for the problem. # cd /usr /usr # du -s * 6784 bin 1 include 17137 lib 10 local 1288 sbin 16439 share 42 var I await your advice :-) why is / full? what is /dev/loop0? why is it so small? will the answer be "42"??? |

lot-o-stuff in /usr. No idea why, maybe it's time to enlarge / a bit.
/dev/loop0 is a loop-mount for a file in SD. |
