Free Book (EPUB) - Wake
Simon and Schuster is giving away the first book in the Wake Trilogy, Wake, by Lisa McMann. The download is only valid this week, December 26-31, and the book is a DRM'd EPUB - it won't work on the Kindle, but should be fine on your PC, Sony Reader or Nook (amongst others).
Book Description For seventeen-year-old Janie, getting sucked into other people's dreams is getting old. Especially the falling dreams, the naked-but-nobody-notices dreams, and the sex-crazed dreams. Janie's seen enough fantasy booty to last her a lifetime. She can't tell anybody about what she does -- they'd never believe her, or worse, they'd think she's a freak. So Janie lives on the fringe, cursed with an ability she doesn't want and can't control. Then she falls into a gruesome nightmare, one that chills her to the bone. For the first time, Janie is more than a witness to someone else's twisted psyche. She is a participant.... Click HERE to sign up for the download. You can use a throw-away email address, as you'll get the download link immediately after submitting, rather than via email. |

Thanks, I snagged it but I wonder what that "30 Days" on the cover means.

Thanks for the download link.
The file properties say it expires 30 days from when I downloaded it. Funny how the give-away page says absolutely nothing about this restriction. |

They must use something similar to library ebooks. Library ebooks have that same band in the upper right corner which tells you when the ebook will expire.

The formatting is awful. The paragraph spaces and margins are huge.

No thanks, too much like work, plus I don't like giving personal information to indian givers.

You can put anything you want on the page, not even a valid email address. Pick random agee (even today's date). Click submit and get the link - they don't even send it via email.

I agree: Horrible formatting, using double spaces between the paragraphs.
People putting out these horrible-looking ePubs are going to wake one day and wonder why their company is lagging in the profits. Don |

Clicking on "Download Item" will download URLLink.acsm, which can then be opened by either ADE or Reader Library. The .acsm file will then download the eBook.

Try windows XP instead of Windows 7 -- for some reason, my W7 computer would not download the book, but my netbook would (where it dumped into the new Sony Reader).
Or try IE instead of FF (or vice versa - but I was using FF and it would not work on W7) |
