Thoughts on sharing A book

Ok, you read a lot and have friends that share your taste in books.

You have just read "The Great American Novel" by Annie Nonomus.

You can't wait to share it with your friends.

But wait! You can only "loan" it one time. EVER.

Who do you lend it to? Do you lend it to one person, and tell the rest of your friends how good it is?

Why didn't you "lend" it to them? They know that you could have.

Maybe you just won't mention how good it is to anyone else?

So much for "Word of Mouth".

The ability to Share a good book at least a few times would be great. Of course I understand that they (the publishers) don't want "Free" librarys cutting into thier sales. But that ability in the nook would have been a strong inducement to me.

Will you tell your friends about a great book that you lent to someone whom you liked better than them?

If that became a problem, I'd seriously consider getting new friends.

this lending feature implementation is pretty bizarre. you can only lend one time and only a fraction of all books can be lent.

You can lead a publisher to water, but you can't make it think.

The way I look at it, incremental improvements are still improvements. Hopefully, once other ACS-based stores join in, market demand will lead to the feature being expanded. Adobe's FAQ implies (at the time it was written) that ADOBE hadn't told B&N the details of how the lending thing worked, so I'm not sure who's actually in control of the feature (subject to agreements with the publishers, of course).

Of course... I could make a comment about the blood-sucking publishers who fail to realize that in this grand digital age we live in that eReading may eventually be one of their most lucrative markets...

But that would be silly, right? >.>
