Sony Ebook Library 3.0 hangs on Mac (SnowLeopard)
Hi All,
need some help/advise. Been using the Sony PRS-300 for about a week now, and I love it. I've had no problem with the eBook Library until this morning. I start it, and the name is in the Menu bar at the top, but the actual library does not start/open. Hence I can't sync any new books. Anyone seen this? Help? Thanks, Mike |

This is a known issue.. Kovid has been working on it, but doesn't have a Snow Leopard Mac at his disposal to test on. There have been some reports that if you run it with Rosetta it will work... (No I'm not sure how to do it, I'm sure a quick google will let you know.)

Don't know if this is your problem but when I changed my computer from China to Canada, the software installed properly. Before that, it installed but did not work.

i upgraded yesterday to sl, when i installed the sony software, the system asked to install rosetta, it works fine, so i assume you could remove and reinstall, there is a removal script mentioned in the help section that i used and it removed everything

+1 here. Once it froze while importing the books and I had to delete the so-called preferences, and re-install, to make it run.
Yet, you do not need to install Rosetta in order to run the Sony Library 3.0. It is already a universal binary. The software is too buggy at the moment though, runs fortuitously. Having just recently jumped onto the e-reader wagon, I didn't like the way the library operates as well. I was expecting sort of an iTunes way of approach in organizing the ebook files on the hard drive. Anyways, Sony has a lot to improve... We'll all see. IEG |

I am installing Snow Leopard but it was more or less what happened to me before.
Workaround I found in the forum: Uninstall the ebook library, then Pref panel, International, change both language and format to US English + US or any combination with the "supported" languages (English, French, German, Dutch). Reboot, reinstall (reboot...) and then it should work. You can go back to the original prefs on language for sure, but I have not tested the change for the format panel. Hope I was (barebone) clear (re: Callibre. I love it dearly, but let's face it: we're still a long way from having ieBooks. ITunes, at least on Mac, it nice, simple and directly connected to the Store. We still have- and this is true also for PC users!- to juggle between multiple programs. Who knows, if they do the Mac Tablet maybe they could get on working on eBooks management. We're waiting...) Last edited by Juliette; 09-07-2009 at 12:16 PM. |

I consider using my old -but proud- iMac G5 which is still operating on Leopard, to keep track of my ebooks together with my music collection though. There I will give Calibre a try. Regards, IEG |

The eBook Library software has been extremely unreliable for me, as well - in both Snow Leopard and when I tried to use it in Windows 7. (On win 7, it wouldn't even start.)

So far, the most reliable solution I've found is to run Ubuntu in a Linux virtual machine on my Mac and then run Calibre in that. |
