Yes, I agree that this would be a good move. I'd be interested to hear if it's ever been considered.

See our wiki:
https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/EBook_Lending_Libraries If you're in Essex or Cheshire, then no problem. But remember that you can pay for access to some foreign libraries. |

I contacted my local library service to ask if they had any plans to introduce an ebook service, and they said that they would like to but don't have funds at the moment. They recognised that it's a growing area of interest but feel it would have to be an addition to other services and can't do it yet.
It was encouraging but I think it will be a while before ebooks are available in many libraries. |

There doesn't seem to be an entry for UK (or Britain) in https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/EBook_Lending_Libraries, although there are a couple listed under England. As far as I can see, neither of the libraries listed there do ebooks in the usual sense of the term, but rather audio books in WMF format.

Ah. Clearly it's time to ask our lending libraries to get more active in this area.

Luton Library does some:
http://lutonlibraries.lib.overdrive....ookFiction.htm but the collection is pitifully small, and PDFs only I think. |
