Trouble transferring EPUB file to Sony reader via Sony Library

I bought a book from Waterstone's which is EPUB and came down through the ADobe digital reader. I was able to import it to the Sony Library but when I tried to drag it to the reader from the sony library it tells me "Ebook can not be transferred because the reader is authorised to another user". Same email address on computer and reader but dont know how to check. HELP.

do I have to reauthorise and if so will that affect the books already on there ( and how do I do it!).

Thanks

Natalie

BTW, The reader shows up in the Adobe library and it bring up all the epub books on the reader. Just cant transfer it through the sony library onto the reader

Hi Natalie,
I have bought various epub ebooks from WH Smiths and BooksOnBoard and as you say they are downloaded via Adobe DE. If your reader is plugged into the computer when you download the epub books you can drag them straight onto the reader from inside Adobe DE and bypass the Sony library software altogether.
You only need to use the Sony software to download ebooks purchased from the Sony store.

I deauthorized my device in the Sony Library then reauthorized. When I added the Adobe docs to the Sony Library, they could be opened via Sony.

So how do you do that and will it affect the books already on there Doreenjoy?

Tech Au - I would but i use the sony library as my "library" where I am able to have different collections such a to read, read etc. If I dont go through the Sony Library as an import, then it will be on the reader but unable to be seen in my collections ( I had this problem in an earlier post ages ago). The reader was not plugged in at the time of downloading but it shows up in the adobe digital programme. I tried to drag and drop through there and it would not work and then tried to re download it. The web site said I needed to contact them to reactivate the link. Why oh why is it SO technical <G>. BUt then again, I could go back to paper - not!

Hi Natalie,

I am a bit puzzled by all this because I have no problem doing exactly what you did and do it frequently without a hitch (books from Waterstones to the Sony Library to the PRS 505). There must be some slight glitch. Try all the obvious things reboot, redownload etc.
Anyway the alternative is to use Calibre as your library and download software. Its also very good. I utilise it at times for various other reasons

It is puzzling because I have used Waterstones before and have a few epubs on the reader at the moment that have been transferred over the same with no problems. Thats why I am stumped. Now to make it even more complicated, it is on the reader but not visible in the collections as it gives me that message when I try to drag from the reader library to collections. very very weird. I will give everything a go and if push comes to shove I can still read it then will delete it once I am done from the reader. Will just have to remember that it on the reader!

Natalie

who is appreciating the help

Natalie,
There is something strange going on.
I have only ever dragged them onto the reader straight from Adobe DE and when I open up Sony Library those Adobe DE ebooks are present on the reader.
I can even create collections using Sony library with a mix of epub bought from BoB and ebooks bought from Sony like I did a week or so ago.

By the way, is there any reason that you are not buying from the Sony bookshop, apart from the obvious one that there a lot of good English thrillers and biographies that they dont stock, which Waterstones and WH Smith do carry in epub and Adobe.

Cheers

I love the Sony books store and thats where I get most of my books. On another thread I read about ebokprice.info and did a search on a book I was looking for. At the Sony store the book was over $15 ( which I was not going to pay) and through ebookprice I found it at Waterstones for $8. So a little less than half which lets me buy another book ( so to speak). So I usually use Sony except in this case and the time waterstones had their big sale ( so thats how I know they work when importing).

Ah, That makes sense.

Have you compared prices to Dymocks ebooks. I don't think they price them any differently to hard copies. It won't be long before they decide that no ones buying them and cease offering them altogether. Thus removing one of our two Australian suppliers.

I gave up on Elibrary within a few days because of the problem of it not recognising books transfered in from ADE etc. It would sort of see them, if you closed ellibrary and restarted it, but it was just a pain.

Calibre is wonderful. And ADE works well for managing the DRM content. Use Calibre.

Hi John, I would never pay the prices they are asking for the ebooks and a quick look today confirms that most ebooks are over the $25 mark. By using Sony and waterstones I was able to get the book I wanted for $8 USD. A Huge saving and hopefully Dymocks will wake up and reduce the prices one day. I resent paying the same amount for an ebook as a paper back. No - they wont get my business. What's the other Aussie web site?

Hi again Natalie

Believe it or not Ebooks.com is Australian. They started in Perth in 2000, although they now operate out of the States as well (Boston I think). There are a few other Aussie ebook stores, but their stock is both limited and specialised.

I'll send you a list if you want.

Hi Natalie,
The three australian ebook stores I know of are Dymocks, www.macmillandigital.com.au and www.harpercollinsebooks.com.au.
Of those three harpercollins is the more competitve with a 20% discount on all ebooks and some ebooks are cheaper in AU$ than the US price on BoB or Sony store. I have bought a couple from them.
macmillan digital has 10% discount and as you know Dymocks have no discount.
The main problem with Oz stores at the moment is the limited range and they only sell PDF for Sony readers.
