PocketBook Era Color

The new 7-inch PocketBook Era Color has been announced. It will be a new version of the Era with an E-Ink Kaleido 3 screen, a faster processor (quadcore 1.8 GHz) and 32 GB of memory. It is likely to be previewed at the Leipzig Book Fair.
Here is an article describing the new model (in Polish): http://cyfranek.booklikes.com/post/6...cali-w-kolorze

Is it the same device introduced December 13, 2022 that is sold as "Pocketbook Viva"?

Color PocketBook Viva will appear on stores’ shelves at the end of the first quarter of 2023 at the price of only 599 EUR. It's time to open a new page of e-reading in color!
.. The price of the device is perhaps just a mistake or a bad joke.

The German news source claims the price of 259 Euro.

No. The Viva was announced with eInk Gallery 3. It never reached market. The Era Color uses Kaleido 3.

From what I've seen the Kaleido 3 screens aren't as good at displaying colours as the Gallery 3 screens. Far faster to refresh, but nowhere near as vibrant in colour.

Thanks for the information. It's a shame, I find "G3" more interesting just because of the higher resolution (300dpi for color) and better contrast compared to Caleido.

A Gallery 3 screen is maybe more than 10 times slower, maybe 25 times slower than fastest regular eink, which is already 150x slower than LCD or OLED. It's for signs and adverts. It's 1500ms for a full refresh. LCD or OLED can do a full frame in 3ms and have a response time of 0.3ms.

But yes, colour and shades of Kaleido is rubbish compared to Gallery 3. About 1/10th of colour range, no saturated colours and darker.

Just look at the Bigme Galy reviews - I understand that PocketBook didn't want to release an e-reader that worked as badly as the Galy.

So is this the InkPad Eo that was on the FCC, or is that a device yet to appear?

It'll be interesting to compare the display with the InkPad Color 3, as they are both Kaleido 3 but the Era Color's display is flush so has some extra layer.

The Era Color is about the same weight as the OG Era so the battery is probably the same size.

You can view the specifications of the Era Color on the websites linked in the first post. It apparently has a 2500 mAh battery instead of 1700 mAh.

It is strange, that it is only 7 gramms heavier then the normal Era despite the bigger battery. But maybe they were able to shave some weight off elsewhere. The Era (228g) is a rather heavy 7 inch reader to begin with. It is a solid 40g heavier then the Kindle Oasis (188g).

The bigger battery must be using some space previously occupied by the casing, I guess. As to the weight, it is still lighter than my Kobo Aura One, even mores if you include a cover.

The CPU, RAM and battery seems identical to the InkPad Color 3. That's good.
