Are there any uses for a pristine Kindle DX?
I have a DX that I bought years ago to mainly use for reading academic papers, but haven't used it very much. My Paperwhite finally died a couple of weeks ago, and have ordered a new one, but have been using the DX by downloading books from Calibre. But I was wondering if there are any other uses for the DX in good working condition? It's OK as a backup, but it would be great to have some sort of wireless connectability. I gather the 3G networks are all dead. Is the card replaceable, or is there some way to use 3G receivers, or some way to emulate WiFi? Just curious. I actually like the form factor quite a bit. Seems silly that they were once charging $400 for these, and they'll now only give you $5 for trade in even though it's in perfect condition.

Pretty much no. Also it's only 150 dpi.
I have the later upgraded whiter screen DXG. I paid less than 1/2 price as Amazon was selling them off cheap as the University project was a failure. Even at that I decided it was the worst gadget or ereader I ever bought. They only do old mobi or slow PDFs. You can add a Bluetooth module to the internal serial port but a bit pointless compared to USB. The $5 is generous as it will only be dumped. |

Maybe a digital picture frame or signboard.

Black, 14 greys and whitish. Seems like a lot of bother and it will need power anyway.
Aldi & Lidl are using large eink signs as well as the eink price labels now. They seem quite low resolution, but do the job. Centra is just using the small eink price labels. I don't know how may greys they do, but they have also red. Backup emergency ereader or Download for USB (though only gives mobi, not azw3). Last edited by Quoth; 12-19-2023 at 11:55 AM. |

If you use Kindle Comic Converter, it's a decent manga reader via USB loading. It has a hidden CBZ reader.

I'm thinking of using mine as a 'table leveler'. It's the right thickness and can be incrementally moved around so the table leg can be perfectly placed on top of the ebook reader in order to minimize table wobble. If sawed in half - WARNING: First take out the battery! - one can level two different tables at the same time or at different times, depending upon choice and/or circumstance. Table wobble is a big problem in Peru, because they have only one, two, or three legs (and the tables are very tiny). Sometimes the legs are broken or they're of a different height, which creates an undue imbalance, which mushrooms into a whole series of possible problems. (I once saw a table without any legs, but I was unable to determine if the table was functioning as a table.) The problem with tables in this country is especially troublesome when trying to eat; but even more so when drinking a beverage of one's choice, such as a Pisco Sour or a beer. (I will have to be honest and state that, for some unfathomable reason, table wobble becomes less of a problem the more one indulges in drinking a beverage! A study should be initiated on this issue. If anyone would like to help me explore this phenomenon, please send me your money so I can fund my research. The address is listed below.)
Table Wobble Research Mr. Farkell (Table Research Specialist) Calle Tbl 502 San Borja, Peru NOTE: Please send double the amount, in case one-half of the money is stolen by government inspectors. That way, I'll still have the original amount you so kindly offered. I hope my answer has helped in offering assistance to the OP's question. Last edited by Dr. Drib; 12-21-2023 at 07:34 AM. |
