Question Calibre not opening in macOS Sonoma

Is anyone else having an issue where Calibre 7.x is not opening, or opening after a very, very long wait (several minutes), in macOS Sonoma?

This is on an iMac, 3.7 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i5.

I've reverted to 6.29.0 as this version of Calibre loads quickly in Sonoma.

I'm on Sonoma 14.1.2 and Calibre 7.1. Macbook M2 pro 16gb. I have a really big library 80gb and Calibre opens immediately. It does take a couple of seconds to close, but not problematically.

@peaceridge
It is not the size of the Library, but the number of books (entries) being managed. 10K (quantity) of Manga should load as fast as 10K of short stories

You can try running in debug mode and see if anything useful is printed out. In the calibre preferences menu there is an entry to restart in debug mode.

The splash screen gets stuck on "Initializing user interface..." so I cannot load Calibre in order to then quit Calibre. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If I run calibre or calibre-debug from a terminal window, it opens instantly.

If I double click on the icon it gets stuck like I described before. If I leave it like that, sometimes Calibre opens after several minutes, but mostly I force quit it after 3 or 4 minutes.

I haven't tried 7.2.0 yet.

Just timed it. After double clicking the icon Calibre took 10 minutes to open. Possibly it will open every time after 10 minutes but I am force quitting it before that.

Here's the terminal output for calibre-debug -g

As I mentioned before, running Calibre from a terminal it always opens instantly, so I'm not sure how helpful this is.

you can restart it in debug mode without running from a terminal. Look in the preferences menu there is an option to restart in debug mode.

So you would like me too double click on the Calibre icon and wait 10 minutes for it to open, and then choose the prefs option to restart in debug mode?
