Disabling Tag Autofill Upon Import
Hello,
In Metadata Download, I have unchecked Tags and set the max number to download to zero, yet my imported books are still being autofilled with tags. How do I shut off this feature? I prefer to set my own tags, and don't want the extra work of manually removing the autofilled ones. Thanks. ~Dˢ |

Thank you. I have found an example online. "Remove the tag if it matches pattern: \w+". It was the regular expressions that were tripping me up.

I'm curious why we need to strip the metadata from the import in this way when we are given the option to uncheck tags and ratings, for example, from metadata download. For example, I have selected each metadata source and unselected ratings & tags, as well as from the global preference in that pane, but still end up with ratings.
Is removing ratings also done through regex, or in another section of the preferences? I'd like to prevent those from being autofilled as well. Thanks. Last edited by Cootey; 11-07-2021 at 10:47 AM. |

Because metadata enters 2 ways.
You had configured the Download method The book has embedded metadata that Calibre also reads. The filter works on that (and maybe download ?) |

I see. Thanks for explaining. Now I am filtering tags importation from two ways. Do you know where I need to turn off ratings? I've covered the Download method, but obviously I'm missing something since when I drop a book into Calibre, ratings still show up. It's not a tag or it would already be filtered using my rule, so I'm not sure how to go about filtering it.

You cannot filter rating when adding books. If you dont want metadata when adding books turn off reading of metadata from file contents in Preferences->Adding books.

So the metadata in this case is coming from the file itself. I disabled it as you suggested, but now the cover isn't loaded, etc. It's a shame I can't strip out ratings as I can now the tags. I'll just reenable reading of metadata from file contents and manually remove any ratings. It's not a perfect solution, but I appreciate your help. At least I won't have useless tags cluttering up my collection moving forward.

Re Kovids answer
That is what some of the buttons are for around the Formats section of the MDE. Select a format (usually only 1), then click Hover over the button to see description |
