Video "Netronix Inc E-Ink reader at IFA 2008"
I was looking for some info on Netronix and I found this :
What do you think ? It's a cybook with a 400MHz processor and 32MB of RAM, doesn't it ? I didn't read anything about a new version of a cybook but if there's already a thread on it... my apologizes |

Netronix do make the CyBook hardware - this is well known. As you say, nothing new in that video.

yes, netronix make products for bookeen.
What's interesting in this video is that the proc and the ram have been upgraded... I can easily imagine bookeen might make profit with this upgrade |

Has the RAM been upgraded? The video talked about "128MB RAM with 32MB for the operating system". The current Gen3 has 512MB RAM!

You're right about the 32MB for the OS. Still it doesn't seem like a new model ?

Of yes, I'm sure it was a later model. The CyBook is based on the Netronix EB-100. Netronix have released (or announced) several new models since then, with new features such as touch screens, WiFi, and larger screens. I'm not sure which particular model it was that was being shown in the video.

I notice that the CE model could be the 610. Is it an already available product or is it still on prototype stage, as far as you know. What do you think ? Last edited by brudigia; 12-13-2008 at 12:25 PM. |

Think about it. With 16MB of RAM, a large PDF file (5MB or larger) pretty much has to be page-swapped between RAM and flash memory as the user goes through it. Adding in an additional 16MB of RAM means that much larger PDF and other ebook files (I've got plenty of CHM ebooks that run between 8MB and 12MB in size.) can be fully loaded into RAM - less page-swapping means faster jumping between sections. And more RAM means more features in the reader app. Derek |
