Apple's Books/iBooks: "in this chapter" "in this book" display

Hi, Guys:

Jesus, what a nightmare. I have this client that REFUSES to believe that the footer info in Books, f/k/a iBooks, is created by the reading app, on the fly.

Now he's in a swivet because HE sees "'x pages left," and not "X pages left in this chapter," which is what he wants (in all upper-case, mind you).

Does anybody, anywhere, have a definitive, up-to-date reference on this? The usual suspects, search engines, are surprisingly quiet about this. I have the latest 2019, I think it was, Asset Guide update, but all it does is speak to the page-list possibilities.

I did find this: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8019291 but...

Anybody, anywhere, got anything, from a "real" expert? LIKE A MAN??? With an obviously MALE NAME?

(and no, you guys know me, that's not usually my thing at ALL, but this guy....he actually keeps saying he doesn't BELIEVE US!)

The problem is that Apple screwed us over with the name change from iBooks to Books. Books is too generic a name. I just tried searching and got a lot of crap about Pages.

Maybe it would have to be from someone like Knox. Who wrote "…the Monstrous Regiment of Women" Even Calvin thought Knox was bonkers on that one, but then Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth BOTH thought Knox was an arrogant heretic.
Just coincidence that just tonight I suspected T. Prachett's book "The Monstrous Regiment" might have somewhat a connection.

Maybe some of these people should be banned from paper and only allowed eink ereaders, old kindle, newish kindle and Kobo, and only software on laptop that lets them view the innards of the books.

I wonder do they essentially use the wordprocessor like a typewriter and the computer filing like a giant desk + box, rather than a properly organised office with organised filing cabinets.

As an aside, a (woman) teacher friend had a girl in class called Why-Von-ee spelled Yvonne who in "art" could only draw around one hand.

Re: Footers
Was it Pratchett or Adams that said there was no limit to the ingenuity of fools? Or something similar.

Quoth, dear:

I dunno, but it's pissing me off, that he would outright SAY he didn't believe us?

I feel like..I feel like Lord Peter Wimsey, in Have His Carcase. I feel nearly compelled to say "you drive me to the vulgarity of reminding you Who I Am, sport." I'm not normally like that, but DAMN it's offensive. That I would stoop so low, as to lie about the functionality, for a few hundred dollars??? And my reputation?

SO frustrating.

I'm assuming that's the one you meant.

1. Maybe you could point out to him that if he selects the TOC of a book and taps Tap to show printed/Apple Books page numbers that the option changes and that it's much more important that the page numbers match the print edition.

2. Ask him to show you a single book where the footer actually reads "X pages left in this chapter."

Doits:

Oh, the "X pages left in this chapter" DOES exist. You can see it on an iPad, in Books, f/k/a IBooks. (BTW, in this, I absolutely agree with Jon. Apple has made any searching HOPELESS with that name change!). For the iOS version, you apparently have to tap the page and it displays.

However, it doesn't exist in the Mac (not iOS, iow) version of the app.

We did extensive testing on this yesterday (because, hey, I'm not busy or anything, so of course, I'm some hooplehead bully's SLAVE, and clerical slave, at that) and that's the case. I told him, 3x that we do NOT control what's displayed in the running heads, the footer (yes, yes, running headers, metadata, but overridden by the upload later), etc. And he said, 3x "I don't believe that/it."

I concluded my dealings with him yesterday by telling him that he owed both me and the bookmaker (who was included in the "I don't believe..." crap) an apology.

That text is controlled by Apple and iBooks. Nothing you can do about that. Period.

(Case closed, end, finito, ......)

Yep, it's absolutely awful trying to find information on it.

Similar with "Word". You get a thousands hits of garbage you have to sift through.

This is where I make heavy use of site: and try to narrow searches to official/"actually helpful" sites:

Code:
Word "Information I need to find" site:microsoft.com

If only my blog was up and running:

No.

(PS. It's happening! It's happening!!! I've been spending past few weeks categorizing every post I ever made. About 50% done so far.)
