Upload new version w/ USB

Have Kindle keyboard w/ ver. 3.4.1. Unable to access wi-fi, or register. Need to upload newer version via USB from Amazon site. My computer is not accessing ('seeing') my Kindle in order to download. I believe I had this same issue a few years ago with current Kindle keyboard that went out.

Might be a dirty contact in the Kindle’s USB port. There is a solvent that can help with that. Or the USB cable could have a problem, try a different one. I had a similar issue with my KK not charging fully when other Kindles would, but now it works fine, or maybe the marginal cable is not in use any more.

On the computer side sometimes USB port goes out. If you have a thumb drive, plug that in and see if it mounts up. Or else try a different USB port (Direct on computer, not some Hub or monitor USB port).

where do I park the .bin file on my Kindle? I put it in the .active-content-data folder, then re-started my Kindle, but nothing - still the old version

the root, the top level normally seen in your host file browser.

Then you go to settings, press menu again and "Update Your Kindle". If the file is not compatible or in the wrong location that is greyed out.
