Unable to connect insode local network

I have set up my wireless modem/router to forward port 8080 on my laptop. fbReader is unable to connect to the laptop at its internal IP address. My modem/router gives me 5 choices of connection type under HTTP: tcp, udp, tcp/udp, gre and esp. Which should I set it to? Should I set up port triggering as well? The router/modem is a Hitron CGN3U.

Port forwarding is only needed (and and wanted ) for Outside (from not on you LAN) connections. TCP/UDP is what works when you do need that access.

Your Laptop firewall is probably blocking: Setting must be Private Network (AKA Very Trusted)
If both devices are WiFi, your router may need to Allow PEER connections
Or, you may need to make sure both devices are on the same frequency 'band'

Hmmm ... thanks, I shall try that. It is a two-band wifi router.

Should be no reason for both devices to be on the same band.

Unfortunately some routers won't forward between bands. The problem came up frequently back when I supported CC. I have no idea why a router company would think that is a good thing.

FWIW: I haven't seen a case where a router won't forward beween WiFi and cable, as long as it is not in guest or isolation mode.
