Sigil-0.9.18 Released
Sigil-0.9.18
For the impatient, the installer files (and source) can be found as assets at the bottom of the Sigil Github Release page. Sigil-0.9.18 represents a mix of new features and bug fixes. Bug Fixes:
New Features
Be aware that Sigil-0.9.18 no longer enforces the need for epub3 to have and support an NCX for the purposes of backward compatibility with epub2 reading systems. There are, however, built-in tools to allow users to add backward compatibility features such as the NCX to their epub3. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please check the Sigil Wiki for important Sigil support links, additional resource downloads, and platform-specific trouble-shooting tips/requirements. Mac users should still download and install ActiveState's ActiveTcl Community Edition to utilize plugins that use Tk/Tcl GUIs. More here. Mac users should also check out the wiki entry on the New Release File Format The latest Sigil user guide can always be downloaded from its own repository. |

Awesome! DiapDealer! KevinH!
I ran it through a bunch of quick tests and so far so good! (with help from Doitsu on typo in cssRemoveUnusedSelectors plugin) Last edited by odamizu; 09-04-2019 at 01:54 AM. |

Just to make sure about this new logging feature.
Defing SIGIL_DEBUG_LOGFILE var enables logging and if the variable is not set Sigil stops logging? Wouldn't be nicer to put such option in the preferences dialog? |

All true errors are reported by Sigil. Logging here is specifically set up to capture additional debug output to a file to make it easier for testers to track down issues when we make specific debug builds to track down problems.
So no, this feature should not be a user preference setting, and it should hopefully never be needed! |

Besides, it still often depends on us to turn on some debugging in specific areas with a special build of Sigil for testers. We don't want users just posting log files willy-nilly without knowing what areas of Sigil have had debugging turned on. It's definitely not a preference candidate.

Thx for the update.
- Open with is working fine witz the context menu invoked from the picture - double clicking on a file now loads the epub into sigil but still i have two issues - Sigil is directing you to sigil-ebook.com when clicking on download in the new version window popup. Shouldnt it go to the github page? - Window size is still not being saved when closing sigil having the S&R Window open macOS mojave 10.14.6 Vroni |

Hi Vroni,
Glad to hear you can launch things with double-clicking or open-with on the macOS desktop correctly again. Quote:
The second is a long known and reported Qt bug which we are constantly trying to workaround. We made some specific changes to make sure we always write out the current window sizes/settings no matter what, and we fully follow what Qt recommends here but it does not always work. Simply hide the Search and Replace Window before exiting out of Sigil. We will continue to look for a better workaround. |

Yes. Neither of those things are new to 0.9.18.
I'm also coming to the realization that successfully restoring widget sizes that were saved when Search & Replace was open is just not in the cards. It doesn't even really have anything to do with saving/restoring geometry when it boils down to it. You can see the same issue by merely having the Sigil window maximized (with S&R open), and then restoring down the window, and then re-maximizing. If you want your widget sizes to be perfectly retained/restored while leaving S&R open when closing, then simply _pretend_ maximize your Sigil window. Meaning manually expand Sigil's dimensions to fill the screen and then never maximize Sigil after that. |

For some people it seems to work just fine. So force closing the S&R window may not be a solution that fits everyone.

Vroni, do you have a dual-monitor set-up? If so, I do find that which desktop the epub is on and which desktop the Sigil window is on does affect whether or not the size/position gets saved (regardless of whether S&R is open). P.S. to KevinH — all my window issues have resolved since the 0.9.17 test build you sent me. Yay! Last edited by odamizu; 09-04-2019 at 11:46 PM. |

No, i havent. And it might be that its not a change in Sigil from 0.9.14 upwards. I'm already on Mojave 10.154.6. and there were quiet some updates so the probability that something changed in Mojave is at same level.
I mean, its not a big deal for me as i'm starting apps relatively seldom and keep them open the whole day (or better said the whole week ) So the need for resizing the window is rare. |

If you indeed keep apps like Sigil open "all week", you should use Sigil's Preferences to set its own Temp folder location to a folder in your home directory. MacOS has been documented to delete files left in /tmp for longer than 2 or 3 days even if the program is still running and those files are active.
