@Enesco, @diremommy - which operating system - Windows, MacOS or Linux; and which version?

Yes, normal account is used.
I kept a backup of these folders (to copy my settings to other computers); |

If you have a backup of the %appdata%\calibre folder restore from there.
If that doesn't fix the problem, something must be blocking access - try turning off your AV, also try Safe mode. BR. |

Plugins missing after update
Hi. I just now updated my Calibre version on my Windows 10 PC. When I restarted it, all my plugins appear to be missing. When I look in my user/appdata/roaming/caliber/plugins folder I can still see the zip files of my old plugins, but if I look within Calibre it says I have no plugins installed.
Do I have to reinstall and reconfigure all of my plugins, or is there a way to get it to recognize them? Second issue is what initiated the first. I updated Calibre because I was trying to connect to the OPDS server so I could transfer books to my Kybook3 app on my iPhone. It keeps timing out instead of connecting to my Calibre catalog. They're on the same local network and Kybook does 'see' the OPDS catalog, but it's not connecting. I know I've done this before, but it's been a while - is there an obvious thing I'm missing? Thank you for any suggestions you may have. |

You will need to re-install but not reconfigure.

Okay, thank you very much! I've reinstalled my plugins and they seem to work as usual. I appreciate the advice!
I eventually figured out the catalog issue was that my computer was identifying my friend's wifi network as public and blocking access. Thanks again for the help! |

Mising plugins and email addresses
I had the same problem after an update -- all my plugins are missing. In addition, my list of email-to addresses is gone. Any way I can restore them? I have a backup of my C:\ drive from prior to the update, so I could copy a file from the backup, if I knew which one.

This happens if you upgrade for a fairly old calibre directly to 3.45.2 skipping the upgrades in between. It will be fixed in the next calibre release.
Downgrade to calibre 3.44 remove the .json files, restore the .py files. 3.44 will correctly migrate the preferences files. Then upgrade to 3.45.2 and you should be fine. |

I'm not quite clear on the instructions. You said to delete the .json files. All of them, or just the smtp.py.json file? Unfortunately, I'm having difficulty accessing the files from my backup. Still working on that. Apparently to downgrade to 3.44, I need to completely uninstall Calibre. Won't I lose all the settings and configurations I already have? Sorry, I'm really not clear on the sequence of steps, and I definitely don't want to lose what I have. Most of Calibre is still working, so maybe it's easier to just reset my preferences and re-enter the email addresses? You said this problem will be fixed in the next release. If I just wait for 3.46, will my email addresses and plug-ins magically re-appear? Thanks for all your help. |
