Collections on GL3
Is it possible to organize side-loaded books into collections on the GL3? I would want to do it with either Calibre or via drag and drop into folders. If that's not possible, I'd probably install a 3rd party reader and just use folders.

Similar to previous NOOKs, you can create shelves on the GL3. You have to do it through the device GUI, and add books by checking a box. This means you have to go through the entire collection each time. It's laborious, but possible.

Ouch. It's like I will have to use a 3rd party app and maybe a file explorer. Hopefully I can find a way to navigate books in folders and open them with a reaper that works with the buttons.

I would get a McCormick -- they make the best reapers.

Shelves are the same thing as collections. Just a different name.

The NOOK also has a search option. This might be the quickest way to find one book out of many.
The NOOK shelves have a nasty habit of dropping books or even disappearing altogether after the device has been connected to a computer. |

The search option is one of the nicer features in the Nook. It's very fast and nearly always finds what I'm looking for. They got this right.

Type in "Weber" and it should list all the books by that author. (If the book's metadata is correct.) |

So, seems to me you wouldn't want to put a large collection of books on the reader if you can't do a search that allows you to jump to the letter "W" and there's no way to reliably use the shelves to house authors with a lot of books. Jim |

It's worth another try. When you do a search, look for the word 'more' in the upper right part of the screen. Touch that to get the complete list. When your wifi is off the NOOK will pop up a screen to connect to the network. Just close this and the search will be limited to what's currently on your device. With the wifi on, the NOOK will also search in the NOOK store for ebooks you can buy. Hope this helps! |

We need to face the fact that B&N only cares about the NOOK as a marketing device. Our side-loading doesn't make them any money, so they can't justify investing any expense in improving that aspect. There's a certain logic to it. |
