[Android] Books Downloaded Show as Not on Device

Calibre version 2.80
Calibre Companion 5.2.4.4

I have had Calibre on my desktop machine for several years. I just installed Calibre Companion on my Samsung phone. I did the following:

Start content server in Calibre
Connect to content server and Download All in Calibre Companion

When the phone is connected to the desktop, almost everything shows as "On Device" in Calibre, but several PDF books do not. I can see them in Calibre Companion and read them, so they are definitely on the phone. There are 333 books total, 175 are PDF format and 44 PDF format that do not show on device.

I disconnected the phone and did the same process on a Samsung Galaxy Tab A. I get the same set of books that do not show as on device. So there seems to be something about that set of books.

Has anyone seen this behavior?

The implication is that the book "unique ID" is being lost somehow. I don't know how this might happen.

When connected using the wireless device, are the "missing" books visible in calibre's device view? They should be there without the "In Library" check mark. If they are there, what happens if you use calibre's "Match book to library" command? You get to that command by right-clicking on a book. Use "Search" to find the right book in the library. Don't forget to use the "Update cached metadata on device" when done.

Another thing you should do is check calibre's database for integrity. When disconnected from the device, click the Library button, choose Library Maintenance then Check Library.

I'm not sure what was going on but here's what I did to fix it:

I configured the device so that there was only one folder scanned and used to send books (just to make is easy to see what was going on).
I deleted books from the unused folder on the device.
I connected the device through USB.
I selected and used "Send to Device" to send everything that showed as not on device (even though I could see the files in the folder on the device).
After this one book did not show in the Calibre Companion menu so I connected to the conte

nt server wirelessly and downloaded it.

Now all books seem to be synced correctly.
