How to enable landscape mode for epubs on Aura One
I've just received an Aura One, my first Kobo ereader, and I'm very disappointed to find it doesn't support landscape mode for epubs or kindle files (PDF only). As a consequence, I'm thinking of sending it back / selling it on ebay. But first, is there a way to enable landscape mode? (Please note: I'm not interested in a debate about why I shouldn't want to do this. I want to do it. If you don't, fine. Let's agree to disagree on that).
I've seen on here that it's possible to install alternative software / readers on the devices, though it looks technical and complex. And there's no way to tell from the info I've seen if these alternative readers actually support landscape mode. It would be a lot of trouble to go to if they don't. So, can anyone advice me on whether achieving this is actually possible - or should I just get rid of the thing? If it is possible, then some details about how to achieve it would be useful. Thanks in advance. |

There is no official way.
You can install alternate readers with support for landscape mode (koreader, coolreader). You can play with the CSS to turn the text to create a fake landscape mode, there's an old thread about it somewhere, https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...44#post2341644 but it's probably not too practical. |

Adding the alternative/addon reading software is not that hard. Here is a guide. With the Aura One, you need one of the latest releases of KOReader.
Once you have the loading program installed, (the guide covers using Tshering's "Kobo Start Menu") you just place the program folders, from the download packages into the .adds folder that the KSM install creates. Then all you do for updating to a newer release is copy/merge the new folder over the old one in the .adds folder on your device. Luck; Ken |

Thanks both. I must admit that at the moment, even some of this easy stuff is defeating me and I need to master some basics. (For example, I can't find a CSS file on the Kobo ereader disk, though I have invisibles visible on OS X).

Each book has its own CSS inside. There is no global CSS for everything on the reader.

Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), the cascading part refers to how later ones can add to and/or override those before. KOReader includes a set of .css that can be applied to ebooks as you wish. You can of course modify them or add your own.

You could also use calibre to convert the epubs and kindle books to PDF format for use on the kobo.
