Scribd adds magazines

Scribd has added magazines to their lineup. Pretty limited selection, but might be of interest to some folks.

Quote:
We’re excited to announce that members can now read articles from their favorite magazines on Scribd!

In addition to access to the best books, audiobooks, documents, and more, your Scribd membership now includes unlimited access to Time, Money, Fortune, People, Bloomberg Businessweek, Entrepreneur, Foreign Policy, and New York Magazine. We plan to add new magazines to Scribd on a rolling basis, including issues from Newsweek and The Atlantic in the coming weeks.

Members will have the option to read articles from or full issues of their favorite magazines, browse trending articles and topics, or explore on their own by areas of interest. Even better, you can quickly and easily find books, audiobooks, or documents that are related to the topic of any article you read on Scribd.

“We’ve always envisioned Scribd to be the reading destination that connects readers to the best written work, and magazine articles have been one of our most requested features,” said Trip Adler, CEO of Scribd. “We’ve combined books, audiobooks, documents, and now articles, around areas of interest. With this content agnostic experience, our members are now free to skim what’s trending or dive deep into any subject.”

I like it, but I'm not sure how much I'll use it. They have some good magazines available as a start. They need to add more.

It is not what I expected and is an interesting twist on content discovery. I thought that it might be images of the pages similar to digital magazines that you can check out from your public library. However it is links to articles within the magazines like you would browse on a website (which makes it much easier to read). Also it collates articles from various magazines for you similar to how Apple News gives you a list of articles from various sources in different topics. It's not just read this or that magazine issue. Then for each article it has the list of interests that are relevant to that article topic. You can click on the interest button and see books and audiobooks that are related.
