Hopefully ready for e-readers with improved specs in a couple years. What I would like to see is improved greyscale with 300 dpi on 7" to 10" screens.

Does "The initial target application for ACeP will be for digital signage." imply that the best resolution they can do is uhhh... big?

Or maybe the market for signage is just a tad bigger than for colour e-readers?
I can buy speed being an issue for them to overcome to get it into true tablet use, but I doubt that's a big issue to make it work as an e-reader (resolution might be though) |

Is this all eink has to show at displayweek?
I thought they were supposed to announce a successor to carta? At first I thought this colour tech looked great...until you see how slow it take to refresh the page! Where's the full motion video regel 2 tech with i.Mx7 support? |

That's a very clever technology. I look forward to seeing more technical details. Eight primary colours? Black, white, cyan, magenta, yellow, red, green, blue, perhaps?

Two years from now they will announce the first e-Reader using this technology. That is my take, what is yours?

I don't see them getting it fast enough for ebook readers in two years. I'm guessing volume production for electronic posters in two years.

A very cool development. I won't try to predict what it will lead to, but I do feel it's an important step in display technology.

Interesting, but I suspect that the very slow (multiple second) and flickery refresh may be inherent in the technology. That would make it useless for just about anything but signage.
ETA: As far as I can tell it's a prototype. No mention of cost or availability. They are probably trying to determine whether there is enough of a market for the device before going into production. Last edited by jhowell; 05-25-2016 at 11:12 AM. |
