BetaPlayer gets a boost with Axim X50v
Picard (my new hero) has just released a closed-source plugin for Betaplayer which utilizes the new Intel 2700G Video decoder of Dell's Axim X50v.
To use it, you must first install BetaPlayer 0.093g; then install the Intel 2700G plugin. Once the new player and the plugin are installed, you should have two new video options. Use 'Intel 2700G Decoder' to accelerate mpeg1 and mpeg4 decoding. With this decoder, I had a benchmark of over 200% (compared to 130% without using the plugin). What makes the plugin so great is that Axim X50v users can now lower CPU speed to save valuable battery power. [via Aximsite] |

Hi,
It appears the Intel 2700G plugin has been removed from the site. Here is a quick from there: "i removed the intel2700g plugin, until some license issues are cleared". Peace, David |

Picard decided to remove the plugin after some people complained that the plugin was released closed-source. The dilemma is that on the one hand, Picard is forced to release the plugin closed-source due to non disclosure agreements with Intel, and on the other hand he is forced due to GPL License restrictions to release all plugins sharing data structures with the main program (BetaPlayer) also under GPL, which implies open-source.
Not sure how he is going to solve the matter; until then, if you are a x50v user and want to use the plugin which greatly enhances your video benchmark, contact me in private. |
