PalmSource unveils Xplore M28 Smartphone

A new slider-style Palm OS powered PDA smartphone from PalmSource was unveiled today, the Xplore M28 smartphone has joined the GSPDA family of devices, it comes built with a VGA camera and digital zoom, Mp3 and MPEG4 support, 64MB RAM, 32MB SDRAM and explandable SD/MMC slot.

Still runs OS5, though. Also, it seems to be for the Asian market only.

It's important to note here that, despite the what the MobileMag article says, PalmSource is not making this phone, as PalmSource does not make devices. A company called GSPDA is making it, primarily for the Asian market. PalmSource is publishing a press release because the new phone uses Palm OS 5 Garnet, which PalmSource does make. PalmSource always says something when their customers release new products and, in light of recent events, they need to increase the visability of all of their licensees.

That looks definitely interesting. Can someone explain to me why the Asian market seems to be in favor for all those goodies? Sony leaving the Western PDA market, Sharp Zaurus never meant to be available, now this smartphone that looks exciting, but wasn't meant to be (at least for me) ;( ;(
