Kobo Aura H2O - Sleepcover
Just got my Kobo H20 and also the Kobo Sleepcover. But the Sleepcover doesn't seem to be doing anything - What settings should it be at for the Sleepcover to put the H20 to sleep on closing? I've played with a few settings at Settings - Sleep and Power....but i still can't see the Sleepcover putting the kobo to sleep when i close the cover.
**Update** i've spent a few more minutes now with my new Kobo - so closing and opening the sleepcover rapidly does nothing to the unit - it doesn't go to sleep immediately the cover is closed - would that be correct? My assumption is that the sleepcover would put the unit to sleep immediately. When i open the sleepcover after a couple of minutes of having it closed - i can see briefly the bookcover of the book i was reading and then it goes to where i last read. That at least proves the sleepcover is doing something right - it's waking the unit up. Still....my expectation is for the sleepcover to put the unit to sleep immediately - but i think because this is en e-ink reader - it's in fact not necessary for the unit to be put to sleep so quickly - perhaps rapid sleeping / waking waste more power (as i've read in other messages) - am i correct? The sleep takes a few seconds. It does several things such as updating the on disk database. And if you are reading a downloaded kepub, it can attempt to update the server with the reading status. So, the screen saver is show, a couple of seconds later the light is turned off and then the device goes to sleep.

Played with the sleepcover all day and i couldn't get it to work at all - i opened/closed numerous times and nothing happened. So i called the shop and had another one replaced - this one was a touch more sensitive but still it wouldn't work with 100% reliability - lucky i wasn't using any of the LED lights - if i were the unit would have drained down in no time flat.
I then eventually found i could get better reliability if i somehow bend the middle part of the front cover towards the Kobo - so that the surface would come closer to the unit when it's closed - it worked much better triggering the sleep mode. But still it was not reliable enough - i believe the magnet in the Kobo Sleepover is extreme weak or my unit is faulty? **update** found i could trigger the sleep mode when i close the cover and press lightly against the cover onto the unit - my fingers close to the right bezel edge. Otherwise the damn cover doesn't put the unit to sleep......arrrgh.....and i thought this was a technology product. My samsung and ipads covers successfully puts the tablets to sleep immediately upon closing the covers - why is this so difficult for the Kobos. Last edited by machoman121; 04-01-2016 at 09:26 AM. |

EUREKA !!!!!!!!!!!
Found that when i placed a magnet at the lower right corner of the H2o it will trigger the sleep mode reliably! So i've now stuck a magnet at the front cover - gonna look sh i tty but it's the only way to get it the sleep mode to work with the Kobo Sleepcover. One more thing - i don't know if there was ever a magnet in the Kobo Sleepcover - none of my magnets would stick to the front cover - it seemed to prove there was never a magnet or an extremely weak one. Changed Kobo Sleepcover - and 3rd time lucky. This one performed much better than the other two - so i believe the quality / strength of the magnet is critical to whether the sleep/wakeup function works as advertised.

Before that last post of yours I was going to post to say you should go back and get a replacement sleepcover as sticking a magnet your sleepcover sort of defeats the purpose of having a sleepcover instead of a standard cover. Glad its working for you now.

I still taped the block of magnet to the sleepcover - it then works 100% albeit it makes it the sleepcover heavier and not so pretty to look at.

My $9 ebay cover arrived and it worked tons better than the original Kobo sleepcover. I didn't even needed to place an extra magnet. The backing also wraps around the Kobo better. So if anyone is thinking about the original Sleepcover for the H20 Aura i'll strongly recommend they forget it and just get these superior ebay options.

I don't have any issues with the official cover.

I bought a Gecko Deluxe cover for my H2O and the magnets were not properly aligned. When you properly closed the cover, the magnets pushed at each other and it didn't fully close. It went back to Amazon.
