All Kindle models from the Kindle 1 to the Kindle PaperWhite 2012 need a firmware update to be able to continue to connect to the Amazon servers. If you don't update by the end of 22nd March, 2016, you won't be able to update over wifi, you'll need to download the update manually and copy it onto your kindle via USB connection.

Here's the per-Kindle-type versions you need.

It's or else for me. I don't have access to my Kindles right now, so I'll be breaking out the USB cable for my K4 later this month.

Has The Verge only just noticed? This has been discussed to death in the Amazon Kindle subforum.

No I got mine a few days ago.

We'll see which Kindle of mine will work tomorrow. I have to check out if it is possible to upgrade.

My frontlight patch will not work otherwise ...

"Approaching deadline"... as in, the day after the thread appears.

But I wonder... given that there was a similar thread in the Kindle subforum, can a thread in a different subforum (not the News subforum) get elevated to the frontpage news alerts?

If you see a post (in any forum) that you think is worth putting on MobileRead's "front page", please do click on the report icon [!] and tell the mods about it.

The mods may or may not agree, but making them aware of the post can't hurt.

There are a LOT of People Esp Elderly in Nursing Homes that Don't have PCs I Hope they get the Update Before the Deadline
