Modify panel-view ebook to generic comic-view?
I have some graphic novels from amazon (azw3) that support panel view (zooms to view each panel full screen). I prefer to view each page as a whole, but there is a large margin around the page that I want to get rid of. Using calibre to look at one of the pages, the margins are part of the image.
I know with some comic converters, it can create a book where the kindle will use some sort of generic comic view, where it will automatically crop out the white margins around the page and double-tapping will only zoom into quadrants of the page. Is there a way to alter a panel view ebook so to make the kindle use the generic comic view instead? |

If margins are part of images you will need to recreate entire book from scratch.
That what you calling "generic comic view" is created by image manipulations and using real panel view code to emulate virtual one minus margins. It is not a magic switch on header level. I personally just extract all images from comic book that use too big margins and reconvert it to AZW3 once more after proper processing. Last edited by AcidWeb; 01-06-2016 at 10:31 AM. |

Thanks for the suggestions. What I did is use the KindleUnpack Calibre plugin to unpack the awz3 book. Then I take all the image-pages and run them through a comicbook converter like Kindle Comic Converter or MangAI to get a margin-trimmed mobi.
Final thing I need to work out is figure out a way to automatically trim out the page numbers at the bottom of each page. |

Technically trimming page number is trimming margins with different sensitivity. KCC is already doing it but it is hit-and-miss due different styles of page numbers.
CLI version of KCC in dev branch contain options to set trimming thresholds for both passes. Last edited by AcidWeb; 01-20-2016 at 02:31 AM. |

Does KCC actually remove the margins from each image page or does it just detect where the margins are and then set the panel view to exclude the margins?

Current version remove them in non-CBZ output.
