Calibre - how to refresh library view? hotkey?
Hi,
I would like to refresh the library view as sometimes after alteration it does not seem to update by itself. Is there a hot key refresh ? F5 should work for this as universal definition but does seem to for me, in setup keyboard I cant find a refresh option. thanks. |

The library view never needs to be refreshed unless you perform operations outside of calibre. If you have some situation where that is not true, I'd like to hear about it.

@minsik - The 'Esc' key will remove any search criteria, Ctrl/Home will give focus to the first book
Perhaps you sometimes inadvertently click on a column label, that will cause the book list to be sorted on that column. I avoid/overcome that problem and similar issues (eg dragging columns around, showing extra columns, hiding columns etc) via the View Manager plugin. A View defines both which columns are displayed and their horizontal order, and the sort order of the columns. You can define multiple Views per physical library. And you can assign a hot key to each a View - pressing it 'refreshes' that View. One typically has a 'default' View, so you could make its kb short the F5 key. View Manager was one of the first plugins I installed. BR |

I noticed if you change or correct the author sort, the library view doesn't automatically resort the book. I need to click a column header for the library to update.

Yup -- sort order doesn't update automatically unless you did a bulk operation.

Just imagine the cost if calibre had to take a break anytime you edited any column at all, and recalculated everything?
And then did it again on the next edit? |

Not to mention that if you are editing directly in the book list, or one book at a time, having the entire book list re-order itself after editing a field is highly disruptive. The neighboring books to the book you are editing could all be changed by the resort.

As BetterRed said, the View Manager plugin can bind a hotkey to a specific sort order which allows you to reload the view.

I looked at the plugin and (for me) it's too complicated for a one-click refresh.

I'm afraid that adding a separate refresh action is not worth it. If what you want is simply to resort, just double click the column header of the currently sorted column.

Yes, that's what I do now and then scroll back to my last working position before the resort. Sometimes I forget to scroll up one place to hold the cursor.
