I don't think the Manga is going to save them. But, if they've got ball pits there may be hope!

Hey, now!
Two racks of Manga are better than one. Now they can stock six series instead of three. |

Each store's inventory will vary, of course. What would be nice is for them to not only increase their in-store inventory and display space, but to diversify it. They are very heavily into the Big 2. |

I totally get that. But in the end, they have to stock what sells. B&N's 'gift shop feeling' says more about their customers taste than it does about their desire to retreat from selling books.

We are approaching the point where we don't know what a B&N brick and mortar store is for. Are the coffee-shop denizens going to continue to hang out if the place continues to morph into a high-end toy store? Are the parents of legomaniacs going to feel comfortable right next to a giant manga display? And does ANYBODY shop in that over-priced CD / DVD section? Ever? Seems to me that they need to focus. |

Be careful what you wish for

That does seem like it would be the easiest section to dump. |

That CD / DVD section could hold a LOT of the book inventory that has evaporated over the past few years. Have you noticed how small the science book section is in a B&N these days? It's pathetic.

Once I had that I immediately stopped buying paper books. That is one thought I had: In a way, the Nook is a direct competitor to B&N's own stores. |

That is why they did a lot of the things they did to annoy Nook users; to force people to go to the store. Instead, they forced many to go to Amazon or Kobo. |
