So, what is this we are looking at? Is this the 6inch screen with the Epson controller?

You mean that white paper to the right side? The only word on that I can read is "INK" at the top. The rest I can't see at all. Perhaps it's my middle aged eyes.

The AM300 specs, are here. Both the Kindle (Some Kindle source code digging) and the iLiad (Hacking and/or development) also appear to be based on GumStix boards, but with different display controllers.

Hi.
I'm Dave... the guy who took the photos. Alan asked me to drop by and add some comments. I've been a fan of e-ink devices for a while (here are photos of some basic Librie experiments in '05: http://www.flickr.com/photos/flash5/sets/852316/). This display is a MAJOR step forward... I am blown away by the improved contrast and the really huge improvement in refresh rates. I'm still trying to get my feet when it comes to the dev side the of the equation (embedded dev is a new ball game for me). It's a really beautiful device. Cheers Dave |

Does this have improved contrast and refresh rates over the Vizplex screen in the Sony 505 and Kindle? Or do you mean just in comparison to the first run of E-Ink screens? I don't think I'll feel a need to upgrade until there are new E-Ink screens with whiter backgrounds to text, although this text input seems very handy.

I'm sorry I can't comment on the Sony 505 or the Kindle as I have never seen either in the flesh. My point of comparison is my rather aged Sony Librie. Cheers Dave |
