Kobo Glo HD
I got an e-mail today about the latest Kobo e-reader. It appears to have similar specs to the Kindle Voyage (although Kobo is comparing it to the Kindle Paperwhite):
More info about the Kobo Glo HD is here. I'm perfectly happy with my PW but this e-reader seems nice and has a nice price as well. |

Paperwhite is the proper comparo.
It has a high res screen but otherwise it is aimed at the midrange Paperwhite market. |

Most people seem to be saying it is a Voyage competitor. But I guess it makes more sense to say it's a PW competitor, it certainly blows the PW out of the water!

Kobo has a reputation around here, to be sure. How well that reflects to the general populace I couldn't begin to speculate. I will happily state for the record though that I have only one issue with my Aura HD, and it was a fringe case that took me forever to find a means to duplicate.
I will happily recommend Kobo to anyone, particularly if they're interested in library loans outside the US. The Glo HD looks like a decent device. I think dropping the SD card slot is a mistake; it was always a major differenciator from the Kindle lineup. But otherwise... decent upgrade at the same price point as the current Aura. And they may get some interest from having the same screen as a Voyage at a really reduced price. |

Interesting. An upgrade to the Glo and not the Aura sounds very much like Kobo are shelving the capacitive touch screen after it clearly didn't work on the Aura. Looks like being a good competitor to the Paperwhite though?

If Indigo sells it to US residents for C$129.99, that would bring the price to US$104.10 at current rate.
A very good price. |

It's not on the UK site and I'm prohibited from looking at the link.
Does it have an SD card slot? Ignore me i've just read all the posts. I wouldn't buy it without an SD Card slot, it's not like Kobo offer Cloud Storage for personal docs after all |

The reason Kobo is comparing the Glo HD to the PW2 is because the Voyage is not available in Canada. So the top end Kindle in Canada is the PW2.

Oh I LOVE my Kobo readers. The best I have ever used. I've used several different ones, currently have 2 Glos, and my son has a Touch. I don't really like the Touch, but loved the Glo, the Aura, the Aura HD, and the Mini, which are all the ones I've used.
