how to export cover page from the first page of pdf?

Hello all,

Currently, I want to add books to calibre with the title of the book as the file name and not from the metadata.

So I disable "preferences>adding books>read metadata from file contents rather than file name".

In the process of adding books, the first page of the pdfs is not exported as the cover of the book.

I wonder is there anyway to set the first page of the pdf as the cover, while disabling "read metadata from file".

Also assume that the pdf's metadata and cover page cannot be downloaded from the internet.

Use the bulk edit metadata dialog to set the cover of all books from their files (after re-enabling reading of metadata from file contents).

Awesome, so the solution is:

"highlight the books>right click>select edit metadata in bulk>select set from ebook file(s)>apply"

I also tried without re-enabling reading of metadata from file contents and it still works.

Greetings and thank you for such a fantastic application.

I've been on the same boat as Mr Bean. I guess we have the same use case where the in-file metadata of our PDF is close to useless.

In this case, is this the expected behavior, or is it a bug that could be reported?

Having to manually select and apply the cover defeats the benefit of adding to the library automatically, and can easily become labour intensive when we are talking of daily updates to the library.

Is there a way to trigger the bulk update of the cover by CLI/Cron?

In any case, beggars can't be choosers, right? :-) so we take what we get.
