Talking Free (Kindle DRM-free) Voyage in Noise: Warren Ellis &… [Comic Book Literary Essays]

Voyage in Noise: Warren Ellis and the Demise of Western Civilization by Kevin Thurman & Julian Darius is their combination career retrospective/body-of-work critique/literary analysis essays for the titular popular and highly influential comic book creator (Wikipedia), who just happened to be one of my personal most favourites at one point (he's still up there, just not top 10 anymore), free courtesy of genre specialty publisher Sequart, who have been highly recommended by fellow MR member and sf/fantasy/graphic novel review blogger Blue Tyson for some of their previous offerings and their work in general.

In addition to the lit-crit niftiness, this also includes multiple interviews with Ellis himself on various aspects of his work (including Nextwave, which is probably my 3rd-favourite thing of his after Transmetropolitan and Planetary).

Currently free, probably just for the rest of the day (possibly up to 3 more, since this popped up yesterday and they're doing it via KDP Select which lets you do 5 out of 90 in exchange for only selling your wares for Kindle) @ Amazon (available to Canadians & in the UK and pretty much everywhere worldwide that Amazon's willing to sell, and DRM-free for the non-Kindling Gentle Readers who haven't quite gotten the hang of stripping before converting).

And this has been the selected 3rd (non-repeat) free ebook thread of the day.

Because quasi-academic literary analysis with bonus interviews of one of my very favourite creators in one of my favourite mediums, from a respected and recommended imprint which does excellent work in such, for free (and DRM-free, to boot!).

It's like everything I ever really wanted in an official publisher promo freebie (non-fiction version), and I shall now proceed to do the dance of joy.

Enjoy!

Description
Through works like TRANSMETROPOLITAN, PLANETARY, and THE AUTHORITY, Warren Ellis has changed the history of comic books.

In this book, Kevin Thurman and Julian Darius examine Ellis’s body of work, exploring (among other topics) how his early work for Marvel Comics prefigures the concerns of his later work, how his super-heroes respond to comics history, his use of religion, his use of violence, his fascination with lizards (and what they reveal about the human condition), and how his characters often use anger as a stimulus for revolutionary social action, in defiance of the West’s 21st-century malaise.

Topical interviews with Ellis complement several essays, expanding the reader’s understanding of the themes in Ellis’s work.
