Nokia enters the Tablet market



Now that Nokia is free of microsoft they are coming out with a tablet. Always liked the hardware was disappointed they went windows for their OS instead of Android the main reason I feel that they got destroyed in smartphones.

Well, it's not really Nokia.
Nokia is licensing the name (and some software and IP) to Foxconn, who are doing everything from manufacturing to sales. They are moving out of the shadows of the OEM/ODM world into dealing with retailers and consumers.

Which is a lot more significant than the name they are hiding behind.
(Sweet tablet, too.)

For me, Android became a has-been noncontender after android 4.2.
I don't really consider myself a power user but I keep a lot of programs on removable media.

If it had been a true Windows 8 tablet, I would have bought it. It was however a WinRT tablet... I really love the Lumia design...

Normally, Foxconn builds stuff and ships it to their customer who is responsible for sales, distribution, and support. They take their money up-front, no risk of getting stuck with warehouses of non-selling gadgets.

This time, Foxconn is doing all three, and get paid when it sells, so it is really their tablet. They are using Nokia's name to sell it, but the bulk of the risk and money is theirs.

Oh, they'd never even try.
Murdoch would sue. He forced Microsoft to change Skydrive because it might confuser viewers of his broadcast service.

Most likely, Foxconn would buy some old familiar name lying dormant like Amstrad or Spectravision or make up something. Or, if they're really clever, talk to Disney or TimeWarner about licensing "WayneTech" or "Stark".

In my opinion Nokia is about 3 years too late to the tablet market. The tablet market is already over saturated.

Nokia entered the tablet market in 2005. I do not see how that is 3 years too late, given that Apple did not enter it until 2010.

The tablet market is not yet mature.
On the performance end significant strides are being made continually, and if even one major player addresses the stagnation of memory capacity then all the other players will be forced to catch up in that vector if they are to retain future market share.

Market saturation is reached when meaningful performance improvements subside.
