Amazon today announced a software update for Kindle e-readers that includes exclusive features such as Word Wise and Family Library. Seems they should make it for all readers past and present. For me it won't matter, we are a two person family and all our books are bought under one account.

So this is only available on certain kindle devices. Will have to keep my husband on my account. He doesn't have a kindle device, only the app on his tablet.

About Family Library

Use Family Library to share content between two adults in your household.

Family Library lets you link your Amazon account to that of another adult in your household so you can easily share Kindle books across your Amazon devices and Kindle reading apps. Each adult chooses what they want to share: they can share all of their Kindle books, or, they can choose to only share individual titles.

Once you’ve set up Family Library, shared content will appear in the Cloud tab of each of your supported devices, which you can filter (for example, See My Books, See My Partner's Books, See All Books, etc.). When accessing shared content, each adult has their own settings for that content, such as furthest page read, notes and annotations, and more.

Access Shared Content on Your Device or App

Once you’ve set up Family Library, you and the other adult in your household will be able to see any shared Kindle books in the Cloud or Archived Items tab on any of the Family Library supported Amazon devices and Kindle reading apps registered to your accounts. If you want to see just your content, just your partner's content, or all of your content together, you can filter your libraries by content owner on your device.

For supported Fire tablets and Kindle E-Readers, you can share content with your children through the FreeTime app. To learn more, go to Add Your Content to an Amazon FreeTime Profile.

I don't see where you set up the household profiles in order to create the family library. When I search "household profiles" in the Amazon help, I get taken to the page for setting up the Echo. So this must be related to the Amazon Echo?

You set it up from your Kindle.

Home -> Settings -> Registration and Household -> Household and Family Library.

Word Wise—For readers learning English and children learning to read, Word Wise makes it easier to understand more challenging books more quickly. Short and simple definitions automatically appear above difficult words, so you can keep reading without having to stop and look up a word.

Sounds like a good idea to me.

In version 2.0, maybe the difficult words could be automatically replaced with easier ones

Thanks. Going back upthread, I found a couple of links for it and I bet I can't do it, since I have an older Kindle. It's too bad since this is a feature I would otherwise get a lot of use out of! Not so useful that I would buy a new device for only this feature.
