The iLiad Companion gives me headaches
I just received my iLiad and I cannot connect it to my computer.
I installed the iLiad Companion Software, but when I connect the iLiad to the computer, the window where I’m supposed to provide a name for my iLiad does not appear. After Windows tries to install the USB Mass Storage device, it tells me that the hardware could not be installed / it may not work properly. Whenever I connect or disconnect iLiad’s USB cable, Windows makes that sound (the same sound that it makes when I connect or disconnect a USB memory stick); but nothing happens, no drive in “My Computer”. Any advice on how to properly install the Companion? I wanted to install the Companion mainly to 1) access the iLiad via my PC and put PDFs on its internal memory, and 2) to be able to see the scribbled PDFs on my PC (i.e., to merge the scribbles with the PDFs). Does anyone know about alternative softwares that can do either and are reliable? |

It's a little more difficult, but you can also setup a shared network directory by yourself on your PC and then configure the iLiad with the right username/password/workgroup/directory and it'll sync with the PC via wired/wireless ethernet. The only thing the Companion does is automate the configuration on the PC side, you can do it yourself if you have some experience setting up network sharing. |

I fixed it
After I read on iRex's knowledge base, I fixed it. I was trying to connect the iLiad while it had a file open. Windows would make that sound that it usually makes when a USB device is connected, but no drive would appear. So I just pressed the "DOCS" button on my iLiad and it exited the document I was reading. Then the connection with my PC (and with the Companion) worked seamlessly.

Yeah, I forgot about that. They made a change in 2.12 so that it will only export the filesystem via a USB connection if you're at the content lister screen. I guess to prevent data corruption if you've got files open on the iLiad while you're syncing them with the PC.
A warning/error message on the iLiad would be nice, but I'm glad to hear you got it figured out. |
