2nd Generation Yota Eink Phone announced

Russian handset maker Yota Devices has revealed details of its second generation e-ink display equipped YotaPhone today at Mobile World Congress 2014 in Barcelona.

The new device follows in the footsteps of the original, but shows a maturation of the technology concepts it was showing off first time around. For example, while the new model does still sport two screens, with one of them being a low-power e-ink affair, both are now full touchscreen displays allowing for easier control and extra functionality.

Now that the new version can be fully run on the eink side only this makes it very interesting. The rest of the phone specs also match most top of the line android phones.

Nothing about reader apps going to the back screen though. But I suppose you can do that setting yourself, sure would like it confirmed Before a purchase.

The present edition of the phone at the beginning only seemed to support their own app and bookstore. Later, the fbreader people claimed that their android app (1.9.4) was adapted for the 1st gen yotaphone (via engadet).

With an app that supports Adobe-DRM, lending of ebooks (.epub) from the local library would be a nice thing (BusStop-mystery-reading

The most important question about the 2nd generation phone will be: Can they improve the battery life?
