Convert Lit News Updates

I just stumbled over two interesting news updates regarding Convert LIT:
  • Windows users can now download a more extensive GUI than the one that comes with ConvertLit 1.8 (3rd party)
  • MacOS X 10 users can now download a compiled version of the ConvertLit binary.
In case you haven't heard of Convert Lit yet:
Convert LIT is a program which allows you to convert Microsoft Reader format eBooks into open format for use with software or devices which are not directly compatible with Microsoft's Reader.

I've thought about adding .lit support to the various Plucker tools (Plucker Email Reflector, PDF-to-Plucker, feed2plucker, and so on), but the legal implications put us at too great a risk to offer it publically.

Maybe at some point in the near future.. or perhaps just providing "slightly-incomplete" code with detailed instructions to complete the process on the user's end, might be useful.

Ideas, suggestions, and comments are of course, welcome.

Hacker,

Perhaps you could add .lit support in form of a plugin? The plugin would not be redistributed with the original Plucker package, but could be downloaded separated as source code, and it would be up to the user to compile it and add it to his or her Plucker installation.

Make a plug-in but don't include Convertlit in the package... The way they do those software that turns Macrovision-protected DVDs into .mpeg files compatible with Pocket PCs...

Heh, couple this with the iSilo, and I can now have a pretty impressive selection of eBooks for my Tungsten C. Thanks!
