Holiday Season E-reading device study
The online survey sampled 603 US adults with children ages 2 to 13, who read ebooks. This is the third such survey by PlayCollective over the course of 12 months, tracking penetration, habits and attitudes in digital reading.

Interesting; and I see the Fire won out once again. In my opinion, it's the best choice for children in that age range. The Fire has the best overall package of price, quality, content, and customer service.

Is there a reason why there is a single entry for "Kindle Fire", but the "iPad" is broken into four entries?

The second most popular response is "other tablet" at 20%. That is a rather poorly constructed survey. Nexus 7 didn't even receive at least 1%?

That gives the iPad a commanding lead at 47%, while the Fire trails a distant second at 29%. Still, it doesn't change my opinion. The Fire is still the best choice for children. |

Agree that the survey is poorly constructed and seems biased. Also agree that it's appropriate to combine the iPad entries to total 47% (which yields a different story from that told by the survey as presented), as does combining the two named NOOK entries, which total 20%. And it's unclear where the NOOK Color and NOOK Tablet are categorized and the effect this has on the NOOK count.

I would like to see an age breakdown: 2-13 is too vast a range.

I wonder if the catagories were broken down based on an open ended question. Something like , "Will you be buying a device for your children to read e-books on" If they said yes "What device will you buy?"
If that is the case, then I suspect most people talk about the Kindle Fire as a Kindle Fire and they don't say HD or size. iPads are labeled by thir version or size by most folks. Notice that the iPad 3 is not included but the iPad 2 and 1 are. So people specifically siad those devices, which they can get for a pretty good price now, but did not say the iPad 3. That would also allow someone to say a tablet and when asked more specific questions "Do you kow what type?" They could say no and it gets tossed into other tablet catagory. |

So Sony, Kobo, et al are only 6% combined? That helps explain the blank looks I get when people ask me what my Sony reader is and I tell them. There does not seem to be an explanation of what a “Children's e-reader” is?

That lines up with ebook market share estimates that peg the entire adept epub space at less than 10%.
