Auld Lang Syne?

Having absolutely nothing to do with New Years until a bandleader happened to play it in a segue between shows, co-incidentally just at midnight on New Year's Eve in 1929 . Auld Lang Syne translates to “times gone by.”

The same tune is used for different reasons in different countries. In some, it is played just before closing time in bars, clubs, and restaurants every night! For another, it's almost identical to its National Anthem!

I can never hear this without seeing in my mind the scene in "The Poseidon Adventure" where everyone is singing as loudly & obnoxiously as they can - it almost makes you cheer for the wave - to shut them up!
