Jack Vance Omnibuses
To the best of my knowledge these are not limited time offers, but the folks at Jackvance.com have been putting together omnibus editions of his books.
The recent addition of the Cadwal Chronicles Omnibus caught my attention. The omnibus is priced at $15 -- the three individual books would cost $20. I really liked the first book in the series, Araminta Station, when I read it many years ago, and you can read it as a stand-alone novel ... except for a cliffhanger ending that he tacks on. The second and third books are very good, too, and do help tie up loose ends. The good news is that these ebooks are DRM-free in .MOBI and .EPUB formats from Jackvance.com. (They are also available at Amazon and Barnes & Noble if that's more convenient.) The bad news is that there do seem to be some Geo-Restrictions. I'd really, really love to have the Dying Earth Omnibus, but it seems not to be available in the US. The list of all current omnibuses from Jackvance.com is located <HERE>. |

Demon Princes omnibus not available here - needs a better contract lawyer to get him non-exclusive.
19.99 combo a hell of a lot better deal than the usual 13.00 each from Hachettusurers. |

The Dying Earth omnibus was similarly not available from the US, but Expat Shield, which gives you a UK IP address, fixed that. Payment at Jackvance.com is via paypal.

They need it to target their advertising. I was sent the following link by another member ages ago when I had the same issue. These are real VPN providers and unless you're using filesharing - or looking at the sort of naughty pictures which aren't permitted where you live - then almost any of them will do. Even the one's which keep logs. I use AirVPN because it's easy to set up and use, and I don't need to be continously subscribed. I can get a four day trial subscription for 3euros when ever I need it. And no chance of my credit card details, passwords or any other sensitive information 'leaking' to 'advertisers'. Thanks for the heads-up, Cromag. I don't need the omnibuses (I already bought all the individual books), but The Night Lamp is now available, so I bought it...

I hope he didn't pay much for his website. His Amazon links don't even work for some books.

There is something interesting going on with georestrictions on Jack Vance's books. I can't buy any of the wonderful Spatterlight Press editions from Amazon, Kobo, etc. as they are georestricted. But I can buy them directly from the publisher's website without restriction.

His website is not exactly 'user-friendly.'
Whoever is involved in the functioning of his website needs to take a vacation trip to Disney World to learn something new and then, with a renewed sense of impassioned creativity and in an effort to find the 'web site [child] in all of us,' needs to dismantle that horrible mess over there and create a new FRINEDLY AND FUN website that speaks to the marvelous creativity of Vance's work. Yes that is the most important thing, and the ebooks themselves are well constructed. The web site is fairly basic, but I had no problems ith it as far as the book buying process goes.
(However if georestrictions are not an issue then the cheapest place to buy these books seems to be Kobo US/Canada, as they sell at the same base price as the publisher's site but also allow discount codes to be used.) |
