Multiple book metadata from plugin
Hi,
When a plugin put multiple Metadata object in the "request queue" in the identify method, somehow only one is shown on the UI. It seems that some later filtering process picks the first one. Is there a way to fix this behaviour ? Sometime the input value is generic, and the search is too broad, so the site list multiple books, and it's confusing that calibre only show one wrong. |

To your first post: There are a lot of answers possible...
You need to provide a real example and your metadata search setup. By the way, what plugin do you mean? You can take a look in your log file of your metadata request. You will find it under "view log" in the download metadata window. To your second post: Books have only one front cover. If you have 2 or more original cover then the books are different. This happens when the book is published with different book-id’s. You need then make a decision about what the one you like is. |

It's a generic problem, for example if you search for "Isaac Asimov Alapitvány" in google: http://books.google.com/books/feeds/...lapitv%C3%A1ny google returns 11 result, but the 5th would be the exact match, the first 4 is other Foundation novels. But it's a fairly common problem, I've run into a couple of times.
Currently I try to improve the moly.hu plugin, which is a reader-community site, and provides a lot's of informations, covers, mostly for Hungarian books. Their search is similarly wide, for example: http://moly.hu/kereses?utf8=%E2%9C%9...lapitv%C3%A1ny And if you look into one of the book-info page, for example: http://moly.hu/konyvek/isaac-asimov-alapitvany you can see, that it shows 5 different covers - because this book is reprinted several times during the last 40 years. In this case, if you know the ISBN number, you can pick one 'correct' cover, but I think, the user should be able to pick one cover if the plug in is able to retrieve multiple |

Yes this is a common point. If there are multiple results the user need to take the lead and choose the correct one. There is nothing where calibre can make your decision. Same is for covers.
If you have, use ISBN for our search w/o anything else. Thats the way I obtain more favorable results. If there are additional covers you can choose whatever you want or even take another cover from all source you like and place it by drag & drop in the edit metadata window. |
