AllOfMP3
AllOfMP3.com is a Russian-based company which offers (legit) music to download in just about any format you want for a mere $0.01 per MB. The site has recently been updated to include an English section. Payment options are credit/debit card (it's Russia, so think twice before sharing your CC), Paypal, WebMoney, or gift certificate.

Has anyone used this service? I'm interested in giving it a whirl, as it looks pretty sweet. Curious to hear other impressions...

Someone emailed this link to me the other day and I have been unable to get the english version to work.
There is a common misperception that Russia has no copyright laws, which is totally false. One might surmise equally, that because no stringent international agreement exists protecting copyright infringement -- either bilaterally or multilaterally -- which includes the U.S. and Russia; and similarly, because U.S. copyright laws do not bear upon Russian domestic law, that you can use this site and that it's legitimate. Common sense question: Do you think these guys are honestly reimbursing the recording co's? Think about this: Apple is adamant that they lose money on iTunes. All I can say is "caveat emptor". Sounds too good to be true.... These download-all-you-can or in this case super-low-cost-per-megabyte sites are all not legit, despite whatever it says on its website. It's only a matter of time before the RIAA or its Russian equivalent file a take down notice with its ISP, or sue it to oblivion...

it's perhaps not too legal. The german magazine c't compared some online-stores in c't 14/03, S. 130
They found it to be ok for the users point of view. (The user can't be made responsible for some copyright laws, be buys the songs bona fide) |
