Kobo Wifi severely slowed down recently

Buddy at work has a Kobo Wifi that has slowed to a crawl. Turning a page takes about 15 seconds, which is about 14.5 seconds slower than last week. It happens with any book, even the built-in User Guide, so it's not a malformed EPUB issue. Even the power button behaves sluggishly; the unit turns off before the screen actually clears.

I did a complete factory reset, which did not improve anything at all. I later installed the wifi telnet hack to look under the hood and everything looks good. No extra processes, CPU load is negligible, RAM usage is normal, compared to my working wifi. No slowdowns in command line telnet response when waiting for the page to change, so it doesn't look like a CPU problem.

It looks like the display itself has slowed down like molasses in the Arctic! Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

When I had this problem I think it was from malformed book because problem went away with removal of books. At least one of the software up dates really slowed down page turns. Unfortunately now you can't revert back to older software version.

Thanks you very much for the prompt reply! Unfortunately, it's not a bad EPUB because I no longer have any books loaded! The probem even occurs with the factory-supplied User Guide.

The Kobo in question has been working with v1.9 since new, so I don't think that's my problem either.

I really think it's the display. The fact that the unit powers off before the screen gets refreshed seems to be the key here.

Any and all suggestions graciously accepted.

you may want to consider taking apart the unit to get to the internal micro sd card. back up the files on it, format it using the panasonic sd formatter, and then set it all back up again.
