Zitkala-Sa: Old Indian Legends & American Indian Stories. 19 Dec 07
An activist for the Native Americans before it became popular culture, when they were the lowest rung on the ladder of society, Zitkala-Sa (Red Bird) was an outspoken force for understanding.
Presented here are her two best known works complete with the transcripts from the Bureau of Indian Affairs and a letter to her from Helen Keller. To many she was someone that should be "put in her place." To others, like my Grandmother, she was a hero. (We are part Mohawk from her side.) More information on her is available in the Wikipedia.
