File breakdown on Kindle Touch
The short story is I loaded up about 408 work related Mobi files via USB to my Touch and it slowed down incredibly, no amount of hard booting will make it go any faster either. So I deleted a ton of books off the Touch (from the documents folder when it was attached via usb) and now it's really screwed up and freezing all the time.
I'm looking in the documents folder on my Touch (via usb) and I'm seeing a lot of .sdr folders with nothing in them. A lot of these .sdr folders have no matching .azw file either. My guess is these are used for collections and I deleted the companion .azw file, and this is what may be causing the freezes? Some of these .sdr folders have .mbs files in them, what are these for? Some have .mbp1 files in them, anyone know what these are for? When deleting an azw from the document folder when it's attached USB, do I have to delete .sdr folders as well? Thanks |

Your issue is indexing. When you load new files onto the Kindle it indexes them. This takes a lot of CPU, and is fairly slow (typically 5-10 minutes per book). Load your books in small batches and let indexing complete before you load the next batch.
To see how many files are awaiting indexing, from the Home page search for some non-existent string (something like "aaaaaaaaa" is good). On the search results page it will probably say "XX items currently awaiting indexing". Clicking that link will show you what the unindexed items are. Wait for indexing to complete, preferably with the Kindle connected to a PC or wall charger while it does the indexing. |

So to do a clean delete with the USB connected to the PC, the associated .sdr and .mbp1 files needs to be removed as well?
Are there other hidden files or links that need deleting as well? I assume the clean removal of a book is to delete it from the Home screen? Last edited by A-I; 03-09-2012 at 11:53 PM. |

No, there's nothing hidden. Delete everything with the same name as the book (.mbp) etc, and the "sidecar" (sdr) folder too.
